And guess what It was 12 volts LOL! Do you remember the similar units that were advertised on those 1-800 late night infomercial type commercials I believe it was called The jackrabbit that needed no wires or cables or anything basically you would have a transmitter and then you had three receivers that would transmit inside the house, but with a little manipulation you could turn it into a mini TV station by hooking the output up to a standard UHF VHF TV antenna You didn't really have to do any trimming or anything but if I recall opening up the box you could change the frequencies and interfere with other stations. We had some fun with it I think I remember the one you're talking about. I wasn't a big fan of radio shack we had a local electronic store which in fact is still in business. But now the owner lives in the back instead of living an luxury home in a planned community :(

The trick you used with the RCA plug to set up the counter weight, could be applicable for any other turntable? If not, any advice on how to measure it without having a scale? Same for styles alignment and speed accuracy plz, can I simply print it in A4 format and use it for testing?

It’s worth pointing out that Elgato video capture device is one of the few USB devices that will work on Mac, most USB devices will not work at all on Mac, only PC. Unfortunately, when it comes to converting analog footage it’s a real pain, The method I use is I have to upscale my footage from 576i to 720p in real time, while this is not considered efficient for analog purists if I was to use their method they use, I would be here all day and quite frankly, I’ve got more important things to do with my life. The DVD method is a tedious problem, especially over in PAL territories where the standard videotape length was 3 hours in length in SP mode, which meant if you wanted to convert one whole tape, you would need 3 blank DVDs recorded in XP mode for the best quality. (Not counting the dual layered ones) which means you would have to stop the tape to change the DVDs over in order to record the whole tape. You would then have to rip the DVDs using ripping software handbrake and then edit the footage and by the time you go through all that it could take an entire day to transfer ONE TAPE digitally at the proper native resolution. Not happening. Another problem at the moment is to this day, I still cannot find a USB capture device that is compatible with Mac software and is able to capture interlaced footage so you can convert it to 50/59.94fps progressively.

VWestlife, is there a way you could send me through e-mail, stating what would be the best cassette deck today. I have over $1500 in cassettes, and I have never had the desire to switch over to the small version of record, which are CD's. Cassettes are the only way to go, but which deck to purchase today, is scary because of how cheap everything is built today. Otherwise, I would really appreciate your input. Thank you. Ken

I have over $1500 in cassettes, and I have never wanted to change over to CD's; which are nothing but small records. Cassettes are almost indestructible, and always reliable. The problem with todays cassette decks is, you never know what you'll get, not like in the 70's & 80's they were always with top durable parts. I have an older, JVC TD-W307 Stereo Double Cassette Deck, which is still working great.

What always fascinates me about records is just how forgiving they are to inaccuracies. Disc is a bit warped? Only noticable when extreme. Not quite centered? No biggie. Stylus weight a bit too low/high? If it isn't too bad, at least nobody will hear anything is off. All this despite the grooves making the sound are so tiny and detailed. The only thing that HAS to be spot on is the motor (and all inbetween it and the platter). The rest has surprisingly big margins where 99% of people wouldn't notice anything wrong.

I got that AT turntable. You forgot to mention one of its most glaring shortcomings. For some inexplicable reason they decided to put the speed control ON THE BOTTOM of the unit, which can only be accessed and adjusted with a tiny screwdriver. The TT almost always spins too fast and must repeatedly be fiddled with. Absolutely infuriating. It now sits in my closet as I await another TT.

Thanks for doing this thorough review. I don't need another turntable but I admit to having been curious about this one. As a Canadian, this is a somewhat depressing reminder of how domestic manufacturing has mostly disappeared from this country. Just like with Crosley, there is no continuity between the original Electrohome and the current company. This seems like a good quality item for the price range; too bad it doesn't have three speeds.

You should consider ortofon test record for testing turntables and their arm, pickup needle alignment and if they work together. There's tracks on the record giving/playing distortion if it's not working the way it should. Tracks with tone that sound distorted if the anti scate is off. And yeah the antiscate dial on my trusty technics 1210 was off. Guess the fact that the mechanism is from 1988 have something to do with that.. When i adjusted it with the test record the music i played since sounds better and clearer NO QUESTION 😀

10:32 - Connecticut Twins Orchestra? OK, be right back, gotta Google that. **afk** OK, back. Jas (John) and Stas (Stanley) Przasnyski were born in Bristol, CT in 1926. Apparently, they were a Pretty Big Deal in the polka scene. Huh, you learn something new every day. "Entirely acceptable?" I'd say it's pretty darn good! The faux woodgrain and smoked dust cover is believable enough to look great next to vintage equipment, and the chromed cursive branding helps bring the "vintage look" home. As you said, it's not a premium turntable, but it's far better than I expected for the price.

I bought a ILive with anti-skating, 3 speed, aluminum platter, standard headshell, BT, USB, S-shaped tone arm, metal 45 RPM adapter all for $75.00 at Big Lots. It even has auto-return. Except for the strange grinding sounds it made over audio when first purchased 4 months ago, which has disappeared, It sounds very good. I use it with a Douk Audio external pre-amp. I'm pleased. It is my 4th turntable. Just a spare to use while I service my 2 Technics SL-D202's. Can you guess my 4th turntable? Probably not, but it is the ATLP120X-USB and I really like it with the AT Vm95e or Ortofon 2M. It's hard to find anything good nowadays.
